Hiring a maid service: what to expect

Choosing a maid service is a difficult task, there are many professional house cleaning services out there that offer different packages. It’s important to choose the maid service that best fits your specific needs. Each cleaning company will have it’s own unique process however most fit into these categories:

The consultation

Before the cleaning starts the maid service will need to get information from you including:

  • the size of your home;
  • number of rooms;
  • day and time for the cleaning; and,
  • the general layout of furniture and decorations in your home.

This information helps us make an informed decision on the number of cleaners and equipment to send to ensure the cleaning is completed in a timely manner and with minimal to no disruption to your family activities. Some companies organize an in-home consultation to get this information, we offer the convenience of providing this information when you book by submitting a contact form or calling us at 604-475-5683.

Before and after your first cleaning we do a free 5 minute walk-through. We use this time to review your specific service checklist to ensure that your property specifications are the same as what was provided when you contacted us. If there is additional cleaning needed we endeavor to complete these on the same day, however a follow up service may need to be booked.

The Cleaning

Once your cleaning is booked you won’t need to do anything else until the cleaners turn up. Some people feel the urge to clean before the cleaners arrive so that their house isn’t a mess. This isn’t necessary and our company actively discourages this, it’s our job to take the headache of cleaning away and we certainly don’t judge homes on their cleanliness before we arrive. We do recommend you pick up any small objects, like jewelry, that may have fallen on the floor so that we do not accidentally vacuum it up.

Our cleaning company is pet friendly and are happy to work around shy pets, however other companies may ask you to shut away pets to keep them out of way of the cleaners.

Whether you need to be home depends on the cleaning company you hire. We do not require you to be home but do ask that you make plans to open your home for us to perform the cleaning, this can be done by leaving us a key or informing us of the alarm code. We ensure that your home is secure and locked up when we leave. For homes that do not provide a key, we call 30minutes ahead of our arrival time to let you know that we are on the way.

The number of cleaners varies by home size and cleaning company. At Cleaning With Love we send between 2-4 cleaners for our weekly, biweekly and spring cleans to ensure a timely and efficient service. Our cleaners arrive with all the supplies that they will need for the cleaning.

What is cleaned in your home depends on the cleaning company and the consultation. We offer two levels of cleaning based on whether the home is furnished of not. In general cleaning companies will vacuum the rooms, dust any surfaces, clean kitchen appliances, and deep clean any washrooms. A detailed checklist of our services can be found on this page.

Post-Cleaning

Once the cleaners are done they will pack up any cleaning supplies and equipment. If you are out of the home they will lock up and, if applicable, will set the alarm. Some companies, like ours, offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. This means that if, within 24 hours of the cleaning, you are dissatisfied at all with the cleaning, we will return to fix it at no extra charge. If you’re blown away by the service and feel like tipping the hard working cleaners they will gladly accept tips by cash or billed to your credit card.
